How It Works

Considering a smile transformation with all-on-4 dental implants in Charlotte, NC? Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte offers this innovative procedure to restore your confidence and chewing function. But how exactly does it work? This offers a streamlined approach using just four strategically placed implants. Here's the breakdown:

  • Implant Placement: Two implants are positioned at the front of your jaw for optimal strength and support. The remaining two implants are placed at an angle in the back, utilizing existing bone density and minimizing the need for bone grafting.
  • Immediate Function (Optional): In many cases, a temporary fixed bridge can be attached to the implants on the same day of surgery. It allows you to smile and eat comfortably while the osseointegration process occurs.
  • Osseointegration: Over a period of several months, the implants fuse with your jawbone, creating a stable foundation for your permanent bridge.
  • Permanent Bridge Placement: Once osseointegration is complete, your custom-designed, permanent bridge is securely attached to the implants. This provides a natural-looking and fully functional new smile.

frequently asked questions

All-On-4 Procedure Timeline

The procedure typically takes 4-6 hours, depending on whether you are treating one arch (upper or lower) or both arches (full mouth). After leaving our office, your temporary bridge(s) will be securely attached to your new implants. You will wear these temporary bridges for 4 months to allow for the implants to integrate with your bone and for your jaws and gums to heal. This healing time ensures the best fit for your final bridges. Once the healing is complete, we will start making your final bridge(s). This process will involve a few appointments over a 5-6 week period, during which you can design the smile you want for your permanent teeth.

1

Mouth Impressions

The lab uses these materials to make your temporary implant bridge(s). If you have many missing teeth in the treated area, the doctor may suggest a wax try-in. This includes making a wax model of your temporary implant bridge to evaluate bite position, appearance, and other aspects.

2

Procedure

The process includes extracting any teeth if needed, inserting implants, and then placing temporary implant bridge(s). Typically, the procedure takes around 4 to 7 hours on average.

3

Post Op #1

Please ensure to monitor the healing progress after the procedure and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

4

Post Op #2

During the appointment scheduled 3 weeks after the procedure, the sutures will be taken out and the progress of healing will be assessed. Generally, at this point, the patient will receive approval to begin using a water flosser or WaterPik.

Impressions For Final Teeth

6

Try In

After taking impressions, we will present you with a mock-up of your final teeth within 5-10 days. In some situations, multiple wax try-ins may be necessary. It is important for us to guarantee your satisfaction with the wax try-ins before moving forward with the final creation. Once the try-ins are completed, making any modifications becomes impractical. Hence, if you choose to alter your bridge(s) after approving and fabricating them, a full-cost remake charge will be applied.

7

Seat Final Teeth

Once you have approved the wax try-in(s), it typically takes approximately 4-6 weeks to prepare your bridge or bridges for seating.
